Water Treatment Plant Operator

The Water Treatment Plant Operator will lead the operation of the council’s’ water treatment facilities including water, disinfection, and other ancillary treatment systems and associated infrastructure in Cloncurry, including Dajarra and Kajabbi, in accordance with best practice and required Statutory, Regulatory and Corporate service standards to achieve required water quality parameters.GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITESBe available and involved in an on-call bases for any afterhours requirements under the Operators control, including prompt response to ensure discharge and consumption parameters are not compromised.Respond promptly to operational changes to ensure continuity of supply of treated wastewater and treated potable water to defined standardsEnsure that processes are frequently monitored, chemicals and dosing are kept up and treatment equipment adjusted as necessary.Actively adhere to and contribute to the continuous improvement of the Drinking Water Quality to ensure compliance with:Common LawEnvironmental Protection Act 1994Public Health Act 2005 / Regulation 2018Water Act 2000Drinking Water Guidelines – Regulatory Guidelines 2019Water Supply (Safety and Reliability) Act 2008Australian Drinking Water GuidelinesPublic Health Act 2005To provide input into reactive and preventative maintenance programs and the development of Emergency Contingency PlansLead a "safety first culture" and adherence to Council’s Water’s Drinking Water Quality, Environmental Management and Asset Management SystemsOutstanding written and verbal communication and negotiation skillsKEY SELECTION CRITERIADetailed knowledge of relevant legislation and regulations to deliver safe drinking water, including the Safe Drinking Water Act 2003, Safe Drinking Water Regulations 2015, Health (Fluoridation) Act 1973 and the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines.Demonstrated analytical skills for the identification of plant performance issues and the ability to identify process improvement opportunities and efficiencies.Extensive experience in the operation of water treatment facilities and distribution system, including sampling and testing.Certificate IV in related field is highly desirable.To be a certified operator or ability to become oneLead and motivate a team to work autonomously whilst meeting deadlines.Sound computer skills including SCADA telemetry and Microsoft Suite along with well written and verbal communication.Attractive salary + super, A/L, RDO and allowances.  For Further information please visit http://careers.cloncurry.qld.gov.au/Applications will be assessed upon submissionCLICK HERE FOR POSITION DESCRIPTION AUD Cloncurry 4824
