Accountant

Cloncurry Shire Council is seeking an experienced and motivated Accountant to join our Corporate Services team. This role provides financial accounting, reporting and payroll services that support Council’s strategic and operational objectives.What We OfferFull Time- Level 7 - $97,000 to $ 101,000 per annum (depending on qualifications and experience) + Superannuation.5 weeks Annual Leave (with 17.5% Leave Loading)Monthly RDO (13 per year)Personal (Sick) LeaveHousing provided: Council housing as part of your package.About the RoleReporting to the Finance Manager, you will be responsible for providing financial accounting and reporting services that support sound financial management and informed decision-making across Council.Key responsibilities include:Assisting in the preparation and review of financial statements, budgets and reports in accordance with Australian Accounting StandardsMaintaining the general ledger and reconciling key accounts, including payroll, accounts payable and receivableSupporting monthly and annual financial reporting processesPreparing financial models, forecasts and projectionsContributing to best-practice budgeting and financial management processesPreparing subsidy and grant financial acquittalsAssisting with debtor management and cost controlProviding payroll support, including salary processing, deductions and legislative complianceSupporting system issue resolution impacting financial dataWorking collaboratively with teams across Council to provide financial advice and guidanceAbout YouYou will bring:A tertiary qualification in Accounting recognised by Australian professional bodiesA minimum of three (3) years’ experience in an accounting roleSound knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards and legislative requirementsExperience using corporate financial systems (experience with Synergy Soft / IT Vision or similar systems will be highly regarded)Well-developed interpersonal and communication skillsStrong skills in Microsoft Excel and WordLocal Government experience (desirable)Mandatory RequirementsQualification in Accounting or equivalent experienceCurrent Police ClearanceDesirableUnrestricted drivers licenceFor a more detailed job outline, please refer to the attached Position Description.Locals are encouraged to apply! About the Role

Key responsibilities include:

  • Assisting in the preparation and review of financial statements, budgets and reports in accordance with Australian Accounting Standards
  • Maintaining the general ledger and reconciling key accounts, including payroll, accounts payable and receivable
  • Supporting monthly and annual financial reporting processes
  • Preparing financial models, forecasts and projections
  • Contributing to best-practice budgeting and financial management processes
  • Preparing subsidy and grant financial acquittals
  • Assisting with debtor management and cost control
  • Providing payroll support, including salary processing, deductions and legislative compliance
  • Supporting system issue resolution impacting financial data

About You

You will bring:

  • A tertiary qualification in Accounting recognised by Australian professional bodies
  • A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in an accounting role
  • Sound knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards and legislative requirements
  • Experience using corporate financial systems (experience with Synergy Soft / IT Vision or similar systems will be highly regarded)
  • Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Local Government experience (desirable)
