About the Role

This hands-on role involves operating a range of plant and machinery, undertaking site maintenance, ensuring compliance with environmental and landfill management requirements, and delivering high standards of service to community members and contractors accessing the site.

You will also contribute to site planning, waste management processes, and interdepartmental support activities such as slashing, firebreak installation, and basic road maintenance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate plant and equipment safely and competently
  • Ensure compliance with landfill management plans, environmental approvals, and legislation
  • Construct, maintain, and rehabilitate landfill cells, internal roads, bund walls, drains, and leachate ponds
  • Conduct inspections and maintenance of stormwater drains, bunds, and detention areas
  • Assist with site planning, including cell sequencing and rehabilitation priorities
  • Complete daily pre-start checks, report defects, and undertake minor equipment servicing
  • Push, compact, and cover waste to minimise wind-blown litter, hazards, and vectors
  • Manage segregated waste areas and storage zones
  • Direct members of the public and contractors on-site safely
  • Ensure waste entering the site meets acceptance criteria
  • Assist with developing site procedures and Safe Work Method Statements
  • Support other Council teams with plant and machinery tasks where qualified
  • Promote a safe, compliant, and well-maintained site environment
About You

You are a practical, safety-conscious operator who enjoys outdoor work, machinery, and working as part of a supportive team. 

To succeed in this role, you will have:

  • Experience operating earthmoving equipment, loaders (such as Cat 950K), and trucks (HR/HC/MC)
  • Understanding of environmental impacts relating to landfill and civil works
  • Strong time management and the ability to complete tasks to a high standard
  • The ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills for completing forms and daily records
  • A commitment to continuous improvement and Workplace Health & Safety
  • The ability to prioritise tasks and follow documented processes
Mandatory Requirements
  • Current Open Manual C Class Driver’s Licence
  • White Card – Work Safely in the Construction Industry
Desirable Qualifications
  • HR, HC, or MR class driver’s licence
  • Plant operator competencies across a range of machinery
  • Experience in landfill, civil construction, or Local Government operations
