Library Officer

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide friendly, professional customer service to library and gallery users
  • Assist with loans, returns, shelving, collection management, displays, and general daily operations
  • Support library and gallery programs, including Storytime, Tech-Savvy Seniors, Coding & Robotics, school holiday activities, and exhibitions
  • Undertake administrative duties such as cash handling, reconciliations, data entry, statistics, and reporting
  • Maintain library memberships, book exchanges, records, and visitor information
  • Liaise with schools, community groups, stakeholders, and networks
  • Contribute to events, exhibitions, and cultural activities
  • Uphold Council policies, procedures, confidentiality, and workplace health and safety requirements
  • Work collaboratively within the team and independently when required

About You

You will succeed in this role if you have:

  • Good computer and digital technology literacy (Microsoft Office and ability to assist others)
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to work independently
  • Initiative and a willingness to learn library and gallery operations

  • Experience in library or gallery environments is an advantage but not essential.

Mandatory Requirements 

  • Current manual C Class Driver’s Licence
  • Blue Card (Working with Children Check) or the ability to obtain
  • National Police Check / Clearance
  • Ability to work outside standard hours for programs and events as needed
  • Willingness to undertake on-the-job training

Desirable Qualifications

  • Diploma or higher qualification in Library/Information Services or Gallery/Museum Practice
  • Attainment of year 12 Level of education 
  • Eligibility for library technician membership of the Australian Library and Information Association.
  • Knowledge of library or gallery operations
  • Pre-employment medical (fitness for work) may be required.
