Mechanic – Workshop

Cloncurry Shire Council is seeking a Mechanic to join our Workshop team within the Infrastructure & Environment Department.This role is responsible for maintaining and repairing Council’s fleet, plant and equipment to ensure all machinery remains safe, reliable and fit for operational use. This includes routine servicing, breakdown repairs, diagnostics and preventative maintenance to ensure plant and equipment operate safely and efficiently. Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Perform mechanical repairs and maintenance on Council’s fleet, plant and equipment
  • Diagnose mechanical issues and carry out repairs on diesel and petrol engines
  • Assist with basic hydraulic and automotive electrical repairs
  • Undertake minor welding repairs when required
  • Maintain accurate records of repairs and maintenance through job cards or computer systems
  • Conduct repairs safely and in accordance with workshop procedures and WHS requirements
  • Maintain a clean and organised workshop environment
  • Assist with operational duties and plant operation where appropriately licensed
  • Participate in after-hours call-outs when required

About You

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:

  • Experience in automotive or heavy vehicle mechanical repairs
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical repair techniques for a range of plant and equipment
  • Welding experience (MIG/ARC or similar)
  • Basic knowledge of automotive electrical systems and hydraulics
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Good communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgement

Mandatory Requirements

  • Formal qualifications in a Mechanical Trade (Automotive / Diesel / Heavy Vehicle Mechanic)
  • MR Driver Licence or willingness to obtain ( essential)

Desirable

  • HR Driver Licence 
  • High Risk Forklift Licence 
  • Additional qualifications or experience in hydraulics, auto electrical or welding
