
Media & Public Relations Officer
Cloncurry Shire Council is seeking a Media and Public Relations Officer to join the team. This role focuses on sharing accurate and timely information about the Council’s activities and services, building a strong connection with the local community.
What we offer:
- $74,000–$89,000 per annum (dependent on qualifications and experience) + Superannuation
- 5 weeks Annual Leave (with 17.5% Leave Loading)
- Monthly RDO (13 per year)
- Personal (Sick) Leave
- Remote Area Housing Assistance ($60 pw Renting / $90 pw Homeowner)
- Locality Allowance
What you will do:
- Act as the main point of contact for all media-related matters
- Plan and deliver clear, effective communication strategies.
- Write media releases, manage social media content, and respond to media enquiries.
- Produce engaging materials to inform and connect with the community.
- Maintain the Council’s website and digital platforms.
- Monitor public and media feedback and assist with emergency communication.
- Work closely with the Executive Leadership Team and other departments
What we are looking for:
- A skilled communicator with strong writing and digital content skills
- Someone who can work independently and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
- A person passionate about connecting with the community and promoting Council initiatives.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends when required.
Qualifications Needed:
Mandatory:
- Demonstrated experience in a similar media or public relations role.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience managing social media and digital content.
- Current C Class Driver’s Licence
Desirable:
- Qualification in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field
- Experience working within local government or the public sector.
- Familiarity with media monitoring tools and content creation software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, etc.)
- Knowledge of regional and remote community dynamics
