Plant Operator / Labourer – Rural Roads Maintenance
Cloncurry Shire Council is seeking a Plant Operator / Labourer to join our Rural Roads Maintenance team within the Infrastructure & Environment Department.
This role is responsible for supporting Council’s rural roads maintenance and construction programs, including grader operations, road maintenance activities and general labouring duties.

- Full Time- Stream B- Level 1-7- $58,000 to $66,0000 per annum (depending on qualifications and experience) + Superannuation.
- 5 weeks Annual Leave (with 17.5% Leave Loading)

About the Role
The Plant Operator / Labourer – Rural Roads position undertakes a range of operational duties, including plant operation, rural road maintenance and general labouring tasks. The role supports Council’s rural road network by ensuring works are completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard.
Key Responsibilities
The successful applicant will assist with a variety of tasks, including:
- Operating plant and machinery, including grader operations and final trim grading.
- Performing road maintenance and construction activities on rural roads
- Conducting pre-start checks and reporting defects on plant and equipment.
- Grass cutting and vegetation maintenance along rural roads.
- Maintenance of road signs and guideposts
- Pothole patching and other road maintenance tasks
- Slashing and general labouring duties
- Assisting with litter and garbage collection where required
- Supporting Council works programs as directed by the Rural Roads Supervisor
About You
To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:
- Experience operating plant and machinery, particularly grader operations
- Ability to complete assigned tasks within expected timeframes and maintain high work standards.
- Strong understanding of Workplace Health and Safety practices
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Knowledge of civil construction or local government works is desirable.
- Flexibility to work outside normal hours when required.
Mandatory Requirements
- Current Police Clearance
- Manual C Class Driver Licence
- Heavy Rigid (HR) Driver Licence
- Construction White Card (required prior to commencement)
- Current Grader Operator Certification
- Formation Grading of Unsealed Roads Certification
Desirable
- Traffic Control or Traffic Management accreditation
- Heavy Combination (HC) Licence
- Experience operating a range of plant and machinery
- Certificate III in Plant Operations (Civil Construction) or similar
- Minimum two years’ experience in grader operations and final trim work
