Tourism Officer
Cloncurry Shire Council is seeking a Tourism Officer to support the day-to-day operations of the Cloncurry Unearthed Visitor Information Centre and Museum

Competitive salary – Full Time - ( Stream A) Level 3- $72,000-$76,000 per annum (dependent on qualifications and experience) + Superannuation.
- 5 weeks Annual Leave (with 17.5% Leave Loading)
- Monthly RDO (13 per year)

About the Role
The Tourism Officer provides friendly and professional assistance to visitors, helps manage retail and museum displays, supports event delivery, and promotes Cloncurry as a must visit destination in Northwest Queensland.
This role works closely with the Cloncurry Unearthed Coordinator and the Manager Tourism and Economic Development, contributing to a welcoming and informative visitor experience that reflects the pride and spirit of our community.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality customer service to visitors, ensuring all enquiries are handled professionally and efficiently.
- Assist with the daily operations of the Cloncurry Unearthed Visitor Information Centre and Museum, including merchandise sales and stock control.
- Promote local attractions, events, and activities across the Cloncurry region.
- Conduct guided tours and assist with exhibitions and displays within the museum.
- Assist with planning and delivering events and initiatives that promote visitation to Cloncurry.
- Maintain accurate visitor statistics, retail records, and museum catalogues.
- Handle cash and point-of-sale transactions in line with Council procedures.
- Collaborate with Council departments and local facilities such as the John Flynn Place Museum, Bob McDonald Library, and Dr David Harvey-Sutton Gallery to promote regional tourism.
- Provide relief support to related facilities when required.
- Work flexibly, including weekends and public holidays, to meet operational needs.
About You

- Basic computer literacy, data entry, and administrative skills.
- The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- A proactive and adaptable attitude with a commitment to continuous improvement.
- Experience or a willingness to learn tourism operations, event coordination, and museum services will be highly valued.
Mandatory Requirements
- Completion of Year 12 or equivalent.
- Current Manual ‘C’ Class Driver’s Licence.
- Current Police Check/Clearance.
- Current Blue Card (Working with Children Check) or the ability to obtain prior to employment.
- Availability to work weekends and after hours as required.
Desirable Qualifications
- Diploma or higher qualification in Tourism, Events, or a related discipline.
- Previous experience in the tourism, hospitality, or museum industry.
- Knowledge of Local Government operations and community services.
- Understanding of Work Health and Safety and customer service principles.
