Reporting to the Manager Human Resources & Safety, the Workplace Health and Safety Advisor supports Council in meeting its obligations under the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 and associated legislation by developing, implementing and continuously improving Council’s workplace health and safety management system. This role is responsible for workplace health and safety, risk management, injury management, workers’ compensation, rehabilitation and return to work, training and competency management, contractor safety, incident investigation, health monitoring and regulatory compliance, while promoting a proactive safety culture across the organisation.
About You
We are seeking a motivated and proactive WHS professional who can work collaboratively across the organisation, provide expert advice, and drive a positive safety culture.
You will demonstrate:
- Demonstrated experience in a workplace health and safety role with thorough knowledge of Queensland WHS legislation, regulations, industry codes of practice and advisory standards
- Proven ability to develop, implement and continuously improve a WHS management system, including policies, procedures, safe work practices and associated documentation
- Demonstrated track record in leading and promoting a safety culture in a complex and diverse operational environment
- Demonstrated experience in workplace incident investigation, root cause analysis, and the preparation of comprehensive investigation reports and recommendations
- Demonstrated experience in occupational health and safety auditing, workers’ compensation and rehabilitation and return to work coordination
- Ability to coordinate workplace inspections, compliance audits, risk assessments, and manage contractor safety prequalification processes
- Experience developing, coordinating and delivering workplace health and safety training programs, inductions and competency management
- Ability to analyse WHS data, trends and performance indicators to prepare meaningful reports for executive leadership and the Health and Safety Committee
- Sound understanding of injury management, workers’ compensation claims management, and liaising with insurers and rehabilitation providers
- Current National Police Clearance, or the ability to obtain one
- Current unrestricted C Class Driver Licence
- Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety (Minimum Qualification)
- ICAM or equivalent incident investigation qualification
- Possession of WHS Competency Card: CPCCOHS1001A (Work Safely in the Construction Industry) or 30215QLD (General Safety Induction - Construction Industry) or Industry Blue Card
- Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline
- Certificate IV in Training and Assessment
- Certificates in Traffic Control and Traffic Management
- Return to Work Coordinator Training
