The 'Curry', as it is affectionately known by locals, is 120km east of Mount Isa and 400km south of the Gulf of Carpentaria.The Community Venues Coordinator will be responsible for the effective coordination of Council’s community venues and facilities, supporting internal and external stakeholders across events, activities, and a variety of programs.About The RoleThe Tourism and Economic Development Manager for Cloncurry Shire Council plays a vital role in driving the growth and sustainability of tourism, as well as fostering economic development within the Cloncurry Shire community. This dynamic position involves strategic planning, collaboration, and innovative thinking to enhance the region's tourism offerings and stimulate economic growth. The Manager of Tourism and Economic Development is responsible for the delivery of the Shire’s Economic development related strategies and overarching destination management.All Cloncurry Shire Council Officers have an obligation to uphold workplace health and safety due diligence when working for the Council,  Under Section 27 of the Work Health and Safety Act 2011("Act") General DutiesTourism Operations:Provide overall management and oversee daily operations of museums and visitor servicing.Develop and implement business plans to drive the effective and efficient management of Council’s tourism facilities including Cloncurry Unearthed Visitor Information Centre and John Flynn Place Museum.Tourism Strategy and Planning:Develop and implement tourism strategies to promote Cloncurry Shire as a desirable travel destination.Advocate for and contribute to the development of tourism-related product, experiences and infrastructure.Marketing and Promotion:Design and execute effective marketing campaigns to attract tourists and increase visitor yield.Oversee the management of the ‘Experience Cloncurry’ Website and social media platforms and utilise various media platforms, to promote the Shire's tourism offerings.Stakeholder Engagement:Foster positive relationships with local businesses, community groups, government agencies, tourism associations and economic development stakeholders.Provide a presence at appropriate regional events and forums relating to tourism and economic development.Act as Council’s representative with local and regional tourism organisations and groups, for example Matildas Way and Overlanders WayEvent Planning and Coordination:Plan, coordinate, and execute events that showcase the Shire's culture, history, and attractions.Identify potential event partners, sponsors, and collaborators to enhance event offerings.Economic Development:Develop and implement and report on the progress against the Cloncurry Economic Development Strategy. Update, amend or prepare a new strategy when required.Support, develop and deliver projects that promote economic development and diversification, employment creation and skills enhancement.Act as Council’s representative with local and regional economic development organisations and groups, for example MITEZ.Human Resource Management: Lead, motivate, develop, and mentor the team to deliver outstanding results for all stakeholders.Hold accountable and develop the tourism team by providing clear direction and goals, regularly providing feedback.Recruit and retain the right people for the right role and proactively manage succession.Ensure staff in the Department of Tourism and Economic Development have the required training and resources for the performance of their dutiesKey Selection Criteria:Proven experience in Tourism, Economic Development, Project Management, or Community Engagement in a related field, preferably in a local government setting.Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and inspire a diverse and dispersed team of professionals.Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.Knowledge of destination management and economic development principles and best practice.Familiarity with relevant legislation, policies, and funding opportunities related to Tourism and Economic Development.Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a results-oriented mindset.Proficiency in project management, budgeting, and reporting.Qualifications:Tertiary qualifications in marketing, tourism, commerce, economics, development or a similar discipline, or relevant experience in the field that would serve in lieu of the qualification.Current Positive Notice Blue CardA current Police Clearance.(willing to obtain)Hold and maintain an unrestricted C class driver’s licence.Applications close on Wednesday 13th September 2023 at 5:00pm"A reminder that Council reserves the right to commence recruitment for this position prior to the closing date should a suitable candidate apply".  Manager Tourism and Economic Development AUD Cloncurry 4824
