Water Treatment Plant Operator (Unqualified)

Cloncurry Shire Council is seeking a Water/Sewer Treatment Plant Operator (Unqualified) to join the team.  This is an opportunity to become qualified as the successful candidate will be enrolled in a Certificate III in Water Industry Operations to complete while you work. Benefits include:$59,000-$64,000 per annum (dependent on qualifications/experience) + Superannuation - With overtime, total annual earnings generally exceed $90,000 (OT is not guaranteed)5 weeks Annual LeaveMonthly RDOPersonal (Sick) LeaveOn Call Allowance On the job training towards a Certificate III in Water Industry OperationsAbout the Role This role is part of one of Council’s most crucial operations teams.  Responsible for the monitoring, maintenance and operations of the town’s WTP and STP it requires a great work ethic married to a sense of responsibility – the town relies on you.  Normal working hours are on weekdays, although weekend and on-call work is required (either OT or TIL paid).  The Cloncurry Water Treatment Plant is a core part of the Shire’s infrastructure.  With a peak flow of over 6 ML per day from three sources – Lake Julius (Sunwater), river bores, and the Chinaman Creek Dam.  The plant has a rapid mixing tank (Potassium Permanganate, Coagulant, Polymer) which filters into three clarifies.  The water then is dosed (chlorine gas) on its to the clearwater contact tank (4.4 ML); excitingly, Cloncurry is upgrading to an electro-chlorination system mid-2024.  The reservoir tank is 2ML and located in the same site.WTP duties involve testing and sampling at the plant and for the series of river bores and wells that supply it.  These tests are carried out at an onsite lab daily and sent to Queensland Health on a twice weekly basis for compliance monitoring.  monitoring  the plant SCADA to ensure plant is running at optimal performance and we are drawing the correct amount of water for processing to match our demand by the town, chemical batching and dosing, daily inspections  and cleaning of the rapid mix tank,  clarifiers  and reclaim pump stations at our backwash ponds to ensure we are on top of any issues before they become serious, and general housekeeping within our main plant building and the upper control room.The STP is across town from the WTP – a huge 3km drive!  Depending on treatment requirements the team have it running most weekdays, but it is an automated system so tasks revolve around general maintenance and monitoring.  Sulphuric acid, polymer, and hypo-chloride are used, giving the shire Class A+ water for use on its bio-farm and lawn cemetery.  There are also seven processing ponds and the Imhoff tank that need checking.  There are 11 sewer pump stations across the town that the team inspect daily (manual chamber check and rinse, and a switch board check) and sometimes more in times of extreme weather.QualificationsAbility to acquire Certificate III in Water Treatment Plant Operations;Must hold and maintain an unrestricted "C" Class driver’s licence;Must have or acquire before commencement a Construction White Card;Possess Confined Spaces Certification (or the ability to acquire);Chlorine Safety Training Certification (or the ability to acquire);Backhoe Operator ticket and/or high risk forklift ticket (highly desirable). Locals are encouraged to apply!For further information please contact the HR Team on 4742 4100.Applications Close on Friday 8 November 2024 at 12pmCloncurry Shire Council reserves the right to commence recruitment prior to the closing date should a suitable candidate apply. PD WTP Operator (Unqualified) AUD Cloncurry 4824
